On March 4th Candy will face life changing surgery to remove the large benign masses on her mouth.
On January 11th, our Animal Services Team members picked up Candy; a timid boxer with a sweet disposition and gentle touch. But there was something clearly going on that demanded medical attention. Several large masses hung from her mouth in a way that made you wonder how she ever ate or drank. She was posted to our Lost and Found Facebook Page where she immediately made waves. Her sad eyes and painful looking masses caught the attention of our followers and they immediately shared in our concern, requesting more information, asking for updates and inquiring on how they could help.
Candy was taken to a veterinarian who recommended booking an appointment for her to be sedated and have a biopsy performed. While she waited for her appointment Candy showed that despite the masses, she is a fun, spunky, lovable dog who will steal your heart within minutes of meeting her. Her personality can’t help but make you smile. She confidently greets you with a happiness that wiggles throughout her entire body. After a while, you begin to stop noticing the masses and realize that her love and personality outshine them.
Results from the biopsy came in on February 3rd and we were relieved to hear that samples taken from all areas with masses are benign (not cancerous). They did inform us that they cannot be 100% certain that she is fully cancer free but based on their samples they are optimistic! Candy is dealing with severe dental disease, the removal of affected tissue, a spay procedure, and post surgery care, all amounting to a minimum veterinary cost of $1,200. There is a possibility that masses may grow back as complete removal of the affected tissue can be difficult to achieve.
We strive for the best outcome of any animal who walks through our doors and by enrolling Candy in our Project Patchwork program we are happy to support her as she starts the long road to recovery. Project Patchwork is designed for animals whose needs go beyond your standard veterinary care. Donations generated by the program go specifically towards those procedures. By supporting Project Patchwork, you’re ensuring that these animals receive the care they need and deserve. Help Candy get her second chance to live a healthy and happy life by donating to Project Patchwork.
