Brant County SPCA Assists with Dog Transfer from the US

Brantford, ON (Sept. 27, 2021) The Brant County SPCA has welcomed 3 more dogs from overcrowded shelters in the United States. Through our friends at the Ontario SPCA, this is the second time in the past few months that our shelter has been able to open our doors to animals south of the boarder. There are many animal shelters in the United States that are at, or nearing capacity, which means they don’t have space to help any more animals. When partnering animal organizations in the U.S. first reached out for help in late May, the Ontario SPCA reached out to their branches and non-affliates to see what could be […]

Animal In War Pins

Animal In War Pins

The Ontario SPCA and Humane Society releases a new commemorative Animals in War collectible pin each year leading up to Remembrance Day. The pin is intended to be worn as a complement to the poppy in remembrance of our veterans and the animals who bravely served by their side. Funds from the sale of the pin help provide care for animals in need, as well as support our veterans. Due to the global pandemic, the Ontario SPCA has increased its commitment to veterans in 2020 by donating $2.50 from each pin sold to Royal Canadian Legion branches across Ontario. The first Animals in War pin was launched in 2017 and […]

Jacob’s Journey

Jacob’s Journey

Jacob came to us on May 12th 2018; a sweet shy dog with a limp and a wound on his leg that caused concern. We promptly got him to a vet where it was confirmed that he was suffering from an old fracture, and when blood work was done we saw that Jacob faced an even bigger challenge: heartworm. Heartworm is a serious disease that can be deadly to an animal and the road to recovery is not a short one. With this diagnosis Jacob would be unable to have any medical work done on his leg. We immediately enrolled him into our Project Patchwork program that funds the extreme […]

Orphaned Wildlife

Orphaned Wildlife

April showers bring may flowers, everyone knows that! But it also brings a lot of young wildlife into the world! This time of year we typically receive calls from concerned citizens regarding orphaned wildlife. The best chance for any orphaned animal is to be reunited with their mother whenever possible. If you come across a possibly orphaned animal, please consider these steps below and do not relocate the animal. Keep in mind that some mothers are awake and active during the day, while others are awake and active during the night (eg. squirrels are most active during the day vs. raccoons are more active through the night. However, either animal […]
