…Animals like Phoebe, a border collie who came to the Brant County SPCA through our Moving Hearts Program from Six Nations. Phoebe arrived with a special surprise, she was carrying puppies! Phoebe quickly warmed to the animal care team, tail wagging, ready to be picked up and leashed.

A local vet brought an ultra-sound machine and sure enough, we heard at least 3 healthy little heartbeats. Maliah, a foster volunteer, stepped up right away to help, taking Phoebe into their home before she delivered. Your generous support makes this important work possible!

“I’ve fostered about 20 dogs over 8 months but never helped a dog deliver her puppies! Phoebe did everything perfectly – all puppies came headfirst; she licked them all over; and ate the umbilical cord – It was the coolest experience of my life. Jethro, one of Phoebe’s puppies, loves the outdoors, is full of energy and brings life into his household…
“Phil and I met Jethro on the front lawn of the Brant County SPCA. Since then, our friends’ dogs have taught Jethro how to ‘dog’ and we’ve spent plenty of time together on the back lounge chairs – Jethro’s favourite spot to hang out. We can’t wait for our outdoor adventures to continue!” – Jess, Jethro’s adopted family.
