Your Support is a Lifeline
It empowers our dedicated staff to spring into action, ready to assist animals in their most critical moments. Our team at the Brant County SPCA learn to expect the unexpected and are continually faced with new obstacles every day. Recently, community members Brian and Justin got a firsthand taste of what it means to be a part of this life-saving mission, when a tiny kitten named Bennett fell into their lap.
Justin was working a night shift when he noticed a passing truck toss an object from the window (something that’s not uncommon on this stretch of road). A short walk outside revealed the soft cries of a small, injured kitten in dire need of help. As an animal lover, Justin did not hesitate; he gently gathered the shivering kitten and rushed him to the safety of his car. He then called his coworker and friend, Brian to see if he could help. “He was in a lot of pain,” Brian recalled, “all he wanted was to be somewhere warm”.
Brian, having a rescue Chihuahua of his own named Bella, is an advocate for all animals and couldn’t pass up the opportunity to help this little guy. He brought him home until our doors opened the next day and to his surprise, his dog Bella was just as concerned for the kitten as he was.
“She doesn’t like other animals, but that night, she kept visiting him on the couch, putting her paws up so she could see him and then would whimper to me to make sure I was taking care of him” Brian said.
The following day, Bennett came into our care and we knew right away that he would have some obstacles to overcome. He had facial trauma that would cause a permanent separation from his lip to his chin, along with severe nerve damage in his front leg which has resulted in an amputation. Thanks to you, Bennett will receive all the care he needs to become healthy and strong.
“Animals will give you 100% of them, regardless of what they get” – Brian
Your support continues to show animals that they deserve 100% in return. Bennett and so many like him are given a second chance because of you. By donating today, your gift will be matched to save more animals’ lives and create homes filled with love.
Currently, Bennett is spending his time at his foster home as he recovers from his amputation. However, his leg doesn’t hold him back from showing off his blossoming personality.
“Bennett doesn’t skip a beat when it comes to playing or running around” his Foster parent, Nik says. “He has already adapted so well to not using his front leg. A friend even modified a sweater for him so he can get used to life without it”!
Thanks to you and our incredible community who have stood behind Bennett, he will be given the opportunity to heal and live a fulfilling life.
Please consider donating today and your gift will be matched to make an even BIGGER impact for the animals at the Brant County SPCA. Thank you for your dedication.
