Whether you’re celebrating Earth Day or looking for ways to shrink your carbon footprint, finding Green alternatives can make a difference in many lives – including yours! We’ve come up with just a few ideas to help you love our Earth a little more as a pet owner.
Go for a walk
Get out for a walk with your pet. Dogs love the outdoors for a reason. Take a tip from them and soak it all in on a nice, long walk. And if you’re not a dog owner, get out there, you’ll still be amazing what a nice walk on a sunny day can do for you!
Donate, don’t waste
Check with your local shelter before ridding what might be garbage to you. Open but unexpired food and treats help shelter pets. Old towels, blankets, and pet beds too! Used leashes, kennels, dishes, coats, etc are all items that can help the SPCA. You can even check out our wishlist to see what our shelter is currently in need of.
Reuse and Recycle
Of course, you recycle your regular household waste but did you know that old socks and t-shirts can make great dog toys? Check out these tutorials and keep yourself busy and repurpose old garments by making some T-Shirt Toys or Hot Pawkets.
Shop Local
Check out what your local makers have to offer for your pets. Shopping locally not only supports your economy but also minimizes resources in shipping, manufacturing, and materials. And that small business is likely doing a happy dance upon receiving your order, and who doesn’t want that? We have a few in mind to get your shopping started. Get your furry friend a custom ID tag from Smash Paw, or a bandana from SewFetch Pets, or a handmade bow-tie from Crochic Designs Co.
Think Green
When heading to a pet store go with intentions to shop green options on the market too. From compostable poo bags, to compostable pet wipes, you can cover your messes while still being green. And hey, take our word on those wet wipes. A lifesaver on the go, at home, and for those unavoidable messes you might find yourself in front of. While shopping, check out brands that specify using materials such as post-consumer recycled plastic, natural fibers, or fair-trade materials.
Save Energy and Resources
We’re turning our lights off when not in use but how about soaking up some sun and letting your pet air dry after a bath. This saves you work with that blow dryer too. And when heading out on an adventure consider walking to the park instead of driving, your pet will love you for it.
