Lost and Found

We’re Here to Help!

At the Brant County SPCA we know how traumatic it can be for an owner’s pet to go missing. That’s why we are dedicated to helping reunite our community with their lost pets. Please take some time to browse our current intake of stray animals, our communities found pets or submit your lost report to increase your reach while trying to locate your beloved animal.

If you have lost or found a pet in the City of Brantford or the County of Brant, you are welcome to report it to us by phone (519) 756-6620 Tuesday to Friday from 11am-5pm and Saturday 10am-5pm or by email contact@brantcountyspca.com. When emailing, please include a photo of the animal so that it can be attached to the report for identification.

Take Action!

The best think you can do for your pet when they go missing is to take action right away! Here are some tips on what you can do when your furry friend can’t be found.

  • Start looking for them immediately! Don’t assume they will be back in a day or two, has been stolen, or has “gone off to die”.
  • Check your neighbourhood! This includes alleys, playgrounds, parks and roadside ditches. Cats can often become stranded in trees or shut in garages, storage sheds, under porches or on rooftops.
  • Get the word out! Cover your neighbourhood and beyond. Let your neighbours know your pet has become lost and ask them to look around their property . Talk to letter carriers or delivery people and call local veterinary clinics, including after hours clinics
  • Make and Distribute Lost Pet Signs (Consider offering a reward)
  • Place an ad in your local paper for your lost pet and monitor for found ads.
  • Visit/call your local animal shelters/animal services services in your area (see other shelters and agencies) and leave a lost report.
  • As difficult as it may be, ask about records of animals who were found injured or dead.
  • If your pet has a microchip, contact the microchip company to make sure your pet’s registration is up-to-date with current phone numbers, address, and contact information.
  • Check our Found Pets pages for your missing furry family member
  • For lost cats, consider renting a humane trap. Statistics show that many displaced cats don’t go very far from their homes.
  • If you have lost your cat, place its used litter box outside your door. Cats have a highly developed sense of smell and can pick up a scent from as far as 3 miles away. Putting the litter box outside may help them find their scent and follow it home.

 Creating A Lost Poster

We recommend that you purchase a large piece of Neon coloured Bristol Board then attach the lost information form to it. This will draw attention to your posts.

Another good idea is to purchase neon Window Markers (available at most dollar stores, staples, etc.). Use these markers to create a “moving billboard” out of your vehicle. Not only will this get the word out, but your vehicle will be parked in the area where your pet went missing.

Submit A Lost Report

If your pet is missing, please contact the shelter directly about submitting a lost report for the pet that has gone missing. From here the shelter will ask you a series of questions to complete the lost report.

For an idea of what they will be asking you click here: Lost Report

Please note by leaving a lost report with us does not guarantee the return of your lost pet. As we do our best to match reports to animals that come into our care, there is always a chance of error.

This could be a result of the description given of the animal, the location in which it is found or that there was no permanent identification on the pet that was brought in.
