This summer, in the midst of the scorching heat, Misty—a sweet and very pregnant Chihuahua—found her way to the Brant County SPCA. Like any new mother, Misty needed a village, and we were there to support her every step of the way.
After an ultrasound, we estimated her due date and realized she would need a special foster home. Misty was measuring large, and there was a concern that she might need an emergency C-section. During her stay with us, Misty quickly bonded with our staff—especially with Amy, who often had Misty snuggled on her lap while she worked. It was clear they shared a special connection, so when it came time for Misty to find a foster home, Amy stepped up.
Just three days later, in the early morning hours of the Civic Long Weekend, Misty went into labor. Amy rushed her to the vet, where Misty delivered five beautiful, healthy puppies! She immediately embraced her new role as a mother, lovingly caring for her tiny newborns.
After a few days at the vet, Misty and her puppies moved in with their new foster mom, Sarah. “Misty has been a wonderful mother,” Sarah shares. “She was shy at first but now jumps for joy when we get home and loves playing in the backyard. She’s still nervous around new people but is getting braver every day. The puppies are growing fast, each with their own personality, and Misty is a loving mama.”
Sarah adds, “Misty is very cuddly and loves attention. She’s learning new commands and enjoys playing fetch with a little stuffed toy she stole from my cat. She’s the sweetest girl!”
